Blue Jackets sign 2016 pick Peeke to 3-year deal

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed 2016 second-round pick and former Notre Dame captain Andrew Peeke to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced Monday. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound defenseman signed through the 2020-21 season and is expected to join the team in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday.

Peeke, 21, recently completed his junior season with the Fighting Irish. He scored three goals in 2018-19 and set career highs with 21 assists, 24 points and 24 penalty minutes in 40 games. Peeke made the Big Ten All-Tournament Team after leading Notre Dame to the tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. His season ended with a 4-0 loss Saturday to Massachusetts in the NCAA Northeast Regional Final.

Peeke, a native of Parkland, Fla., was the 34th overall selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. --Field Level Media
