Bruins solidified claim for second place in Atlantic division with win over Jackets

Jake DeBrusk scored two goals, including one of the luckiest he'll ever tally, and Brad Marchand reached the century mark for points as the visiting Boston Bruins handed the Columbus Blue Jackets a 6-2 defeat Tuesday night. Boston (48-23-9, 105 points) solidified its claim for a second place in the Atlantic Division, while Columbus (45-31-4, 94 points) saw its five-game winning streak snapped amidst a three-team battle with Carolina and Montreal for the two Eastern Conference's wild-card positions.

DeBrusk's opening tally 118 seconds into the affair set the tone for the rest of the game for both teams. From the slot, he swung at a cross-ice pass and watched as the puck bounced off the top of the net, off the back of Columbus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and into the cage. From there, the Bruins, who received a 32-save performance from goalie Tuukka Rask, staked a 5-0 lead.

Marcus Johansson doubled the advantage, burying a rebound with 2:33 left in the opening frame, and then Marchand did the same during a crazy scramble at 15:14 of the middle frame to give the visitors a three-goal edge. DeBrusk netted his second of the night just 46 seconds later on a give-and-go and made it a 4-0 lead with his 27th of the season. Marchand then assisted on David Pastrnak's marker 34 seconds into the third period for his 100th point on the season. He's the first Bruins player since Joe Thornton in 2002-03 to reach the century mark.

The hosts made the night somewhat respectable with a pair of third-period power-play goals by Oliver Bjorkstrand, his seventh goal in a six-game streak, and Matt Duchene. However, Boston's Karson Khulman dashed any comeback hopes when he rounded out the scoring 74 seconds after Duchene's tally.

Marchand, Khulman, Torey Krug and David Krejci each had two-point nights for the Bruins. Bobrovsky, who was named the NHL's first star of the week on Monday, surrendered four goals on 23 shots before given the hook. Joonas Korpisalo made three saves in his relief effort.
