Clippers retain Jerry West as consultant
Jerry West will remain a consultant for the Los Angeles Clippers next season, the Los Angeles Times reported. West, 80, began working as a consultant with the Clippers in June 2017 and remains in place to pilot what is being billed as a pivotal offseason for the franchise.
Several prime free agents are due to hit the open market on July 1 and many already have been linked to the Clippers. Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving and Jimmy Butler have been mentioned as potential targets. One other marquee player, Warriors All-Star Klay Thompson, reportedly has the Clippers on his list of options if Golden State doesn't offer him a max contract. West is in his 37th year working in a front-office role, including stints with the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers and Warriors.
Since joining under the Lawrence Frank regime, West has helped oversee a restructuring of the Clippers' roster that included several trades -- Blake Griffin to the Pistons, Tobias Harris to the 76ers -- geared at opening cash for this summer. --Field Level Media
