Speaking at his regular morning news conference, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Monday reiterated that he believed a deal could be reached between Mexico and the United States to resolve a trade dispute that threatens to impose U.S. tariffs on Mexican goods. Lopez Obrador said a deal was in the interests of both countries, as Mexican officials began meetings with U.S. representatives in Washington aimed at brokering an accord.

U.S. President Donald Trump says he will apply tariffs of 5% on Mexican goods on June 10 if Mexico does not halt the flow of illegal immigration, largely from Central America, across the U.S.-Mexican border.
