The Washington Capitals signed forward Carl Hagelin to a four-year, $11 million contract extension. "Carl is a versatile player who can play on any line and is an excellent penalty killer," general manager Brian MacLellan said Sunday. "He is a proven winner and provides great leadership to our team."
The Capitals acquired the 30-year-old Swede on Feb. 21 from the Los Angeles Kings for a third-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft and a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. The Kings acquired him from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 14, 2018. Between the three teams last season, Hagelin appeared in 58 games and tallied 19 points (five goals, 14 assists).
In 546 career games between the Capitals, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks, Hagelin has 241 points (93 goals, 148 assists).
