China's Vice Commerce Minister Wang Shouwen said on Monday that tariffs imposed by certain countries are a threat to the world economy, and that China hopes for progress in the necessary reforms of the World Trade Organization. The policy room for countries to cope with an economic slowdown is limited, deputy governor of China's central bank Chen Yulu said.

Wang and Chen were speaking at a media briefing in Beijing ahead of the G20 summit in Japan later this week. Chinese President Xi Jinping is due to meet U.S. President Donald Trump at the summit in Osaka.
