Three people have been arrested after a video of them allegedly beating up an unmarried couple sitting in a shop in a village here surfaced on social media, police said on Friday.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Raj Kumar Agarwal said that the incident took place in Rithaura village on Wednesday.
After the video surfaced on social media, the woman's brother registered a complaint, following which three men, identified as Manoj, Pankaj and Ajay, all residents of Rithaura area, were arrested. An FIR was registered in Hafizganj police station under the Indian Penal Code Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult), the ASP said.
He said other accused involved in the act are being identified through the video.
The ASP said that the man, a tailor, was sitting inside his shop with the woman with shutter down, following which some men entered there and started thrashing them.
They dragged the couple out of the shop, while some people present on the spot also filmed the act, he said.
In the video, the man can be seen with a torn shirt while the mob can be seen pulling the woman's hair and not allowing her to cover her face.
