SC dismisses plea seeking ban of lawmakers from practicing as advocates

The Supreme Court Tuesday dismissed a plea seeking to ban lawmakers from practicing as advocates.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra said that the Bar Council of India Rules does not prohibit legislators from practicing as lawyers.

The court was hearing a PIL filed by BJP leader and advocate Ashwini Upadhyay seeking to bar lawyer-lawmakers (MPs, MLAs, MLCs) from practicing in courts during their tenure in the legislature.
