Two labourers were killed when a part of the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in the Pandeypur area here, police said on Thursday.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed sadness over the deaths and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the family members of each of the deceased.

According to police, Deepak Jaiswal (42) and Chotai (40) fell on the ground when a part of the roof collapsed on Wednesday. The duo were rushed to hospital where doctors declared them dead, police said. District Magistrate of Varanasi S Ramalingam said the ex gratia announced by the chief minister has been handed over to the family members of the deceased.
