A Navi Mumbai-based real estate developer was shot dead by two motorbike-borne assailants on Wednesday evening, police said.
The unidentified attackers fired a couple of shots at Saujibhai Patel, the owner of real estate group Emperia, while he was driving his car in the Nerul area in the satellite town of Mumbai, they said.
Patel was rushed to a hospital in Belapur where doctors declared him brought dead, said the police.
The motive behind the murder was not immediately known.
Senior police officers visited the crime spot and initiated a probe.
The Emperia group, which has its head office in Belapur, a prominent business district of Navi Mumbai, is currently executing several real estate projects in Nerul MIDC, Panvel and Rasayani.
An official from the Navi Mumbai police said a manhunt was underway for the killers.
The Nerul police have initiated the process to register a case of murder and also invoke the Arms Act.
