U.S. Homeland Security seeks 1,500 troops to aid border effort -statement

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday asked for another 1,500 troops to help with "non-law enforcement duties" at the U.S.-Mexico border for 90 days.

A U.S. official earlier told Reuters the troops would be sent ahead of a possible rise in illegal immigration when COVID border restrictions lift later this month.
