Michigan governor seek prompt resolution to auto strike
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer wants automakers and the United Auto Workers to reach a new contract deal as soon as possible, warning of the impacts of a prolonged strike and partial federal government shutdown, a spokesman said.
"The prospect of a prolonged strike combined with a federal shutdown is the greatest threat to the American economy, future job growth, and our state's fiscal health if a deal is not made soon," said Zack Pohl, the governor's deputy chief of staff in a statement, adding the state's ability "to attract future union jobs is in jeopardy if the impacts of the strike on this industry grow... Time is of the essence."
