German govt convinced new budget is 'consitutional' - spokesperson

The German government is convinced that its supplementary budget for 2023 to solve a budget crisis triggered by a constitutional court ruling against billions in spending is legally sound, a government spokesperson said in Berlin on Monday.

"We are very convinced that it is constitutionally compatible with the new requirements of the federal constitutional court," the spokesperson said, in response to a reporter's question on whether a fresh legal challenge was possible.
