A man was arrested for allegedly duping people on the pretext of helping them withdraw money from Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday.

Imran Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Dialgam village of Anantnag, was arrested by a specially constituted team from one of the ATMs at Banihal. Various stolen ATM cards were recovered from his car, a police spokesman said.

“Sheikh is a notorious professional fraudster who used to dupe the elderly and illiterate persons on the pretext of helping them by swapping their ATM cards and later withdrawing their money,” the spokesman said.

He said police laid a trap for the fraudster after receiving a number of complaints in the recent past and succeeded in arresting him.

Sheikh is wanted in separate cases at three separate police stations in Pulwama and Anantnag districts.
