London's Old Bailey court was evacuated on Wednesday as a precaution following a fire at an electrical substation near the court buildings, fire services said.
The London Fire Brigade said about 25 firefighters were responding to an incident involving an electrical substation on near the rear of the Central Criminal Court, better known as the Old Bailey. "The cause of the fire is not yet known," the fire brigade said in a statement.
David Brown, a reporter with the Times newspaper, said in a post on X that the building was evacuated after the power went off in the court where many of Britain's most serious cases are heard. He also quoted Judge Mark Lucraft, the most senior judge based at the Old Bailey, as saying it was "too early" to know when cases would be able to resume.
