A gang of six men decamped with cash and gold worth Rs 1 crore from a nationalised bank in Kakinada district in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, police said.

According to Kakinada District Superintendent of Police S Satish Kumar, the burglars broke into the State Bank of India branch in Uttarakanchi village between 12:30 am and 3:30 am today.

''They broke open two lockers and fled with Rs 35 lakh cash and gold worth Rs 65 lakh,'' Kumar told PTI.

The men entered the bank by breaking open a window, which they cut open using gas cutters.

The senior police official said the burglars disconnected power to the surveillance and alarm systems.

A case was registered and efforts are on to nab the burglars.
