A 17-year-old boy driving an SUV collided with a teenage girl in Ahmedabad, leaving her with severe head injuries, police reported on Saturday. The incident follows closely on the heels of the tragic Pune car crash.

The boy, who was allegedly driving the Fortuner involved in the incident, has been detained. Initial investigations reveal he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to a Gujarat Police officer.

The accident occurred on Friday evening near the girl's home in Thaltej when she was walking to a nearby market, said KP Sagathiya, inspector of the N-division traffic police.

The 16-year-old girl is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, the officer reported.

Eyewitnesses said the Fortuner was speeding when it hit the girl, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and veer into a vacant plot of land. Local residents quickly cornered the driver and contacted the police, Sagathiya added.

Two friends accompanied the juvenile driver at the time of the accident. The Fortuner is registered in the name of the minor's elder brother, the officer said, noting that further investigations are underway.

In a related incident, a Porsche driven by a juvenile boy struck a motorbike in Pune, killing two IT professionals on May 19. The minor was reportedly intoxicated during the accident, according to police.
