A local court has dismissed the plea of former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain, who had sought the production of specific documents in connection with a 'larger conspiracy' related to the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.

Hussain and several others face charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai noted that Hussain's request included statements from a key witness, Rahul Kasana, recorded in separate rioting and money-laundering cases. However, Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad argued that this application was merely a defense tactic at a premature stage when charges are yet to be framed.

The court order, issued on Saturday, emphasized that Hussain's plea failed to demonstrate how the statements would aid his defense, stating that at this early stage, summoning the desired documents was neither necessary nor desirable. As a result, the court found no merit in the application and dismissed it.
