The ongoing rivalry between Tillu Tajpuriya and Gogi gangs took a violent turn inside Tihar Jail Number 3, as a prisoner was stabbed during a fight, officials reported. The victim, Hitesh, an undertrial in a murder case, was swiftly transported to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care.
Authorities revealed that the confrontation erupted around 11.15 am on Wednesday, involving Hitesh, a Gogi gang member, and two rivals from the Tillu Tajpuriya gang. According to police, Hitesh was attacked with a weapon described as an ice-pick.
''The incident was reported to Hari Nagar Police Station from DDU Hospital, leading local police to initiate inquiries,'' noted Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vichitra Veer. Preliminary investigation identifies the attackers as Gaurav Lohra and Gurinder, with further verification pending. Legal actions under IPC Section 307 have commenced against them.
Informed sources within Tihar Jail disclosed that a verbal altercation rapidly escalated into a physical clash, culminating in Hitesh's stabbing. Both Gaurav and Gurinder, also facing murder and attempted murder charges, have been involved in similar past confrontations, stirring tensions within prison walls.
The disturbing incident on Wednesday brings to mind a previous fatal conflict where Tillu Tajpuriya himself was murdered by a rival gang in the same facility in May of last year, underscoring the persistent volatility among incarcerated gang members.
