A 29-year-old woman, held captive in Dubai by her agent, was rescued by Mumbai police with assistance from the Indian Embassy, officials reported on Friday.
The victim traveled to Dubai on April 8 through a Delhi-based agent, Tarun, who promised her a hotel receptionist job at Rs 70,000 per month. However, upon arrival, her documents were confiscated, and she was lodged in a hotel with 40-50 other women. Despite her deteriorating health, the agent made her work for six months without pay. Her family's pleas for her return were ignored.
Alerted on June 3, Mumbai police’s Bharosa Cell coordinated with the Indian Ambassador to negotiate with the hotel owner, resulting in her safe return to India on Thursday, where she reunited with her family.
