The incident occurred while the convoy was heading towards the violence-stricken Jiribam district. Multiple gunshots were exchanged between the security forces' vehicles and the attackers, with the shootout still ongoing near Kotlen village along National Highway-53 at the latest count.
"Chief Minister Biren Singh, who is currently in Delhi, had planned to visit Jiribam to assess the situation," an official disclosed to PTI. On Saturday, suspected militants torched two police outposts, a forest beat office, and at least 70 houses in Jiribam.
