Former SAPS Crime Intelligence Head Richard Mdluli to Stand Trial for Corruption

Despite pending matters, the court has ruled that the trial will proceed on the set date, as confirmed by National Prosecuting Authority Investigating Directorate spokesperson Henry Mamothame.

The corruption case involving former South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence Head, Richard Mdluli, along with co-accused Heine Barnard and Solomon Lazarus, has been scheduled for trial in October at the Pretoria High Court.

Despite pending matters, the court has ruled that the trial will proceed on the set date, as confirmed by National Prosecuting Authority Investigating Directorate spokesperson Henry Mamothame.

The charges against Mdluli, Barnard, and Lazarus stem from their tenure in SAPS Crime Intelligence Services between 2008 and 2012, involving alleged corruption, fraud, and theft related to the police's secret slush fund.

Among the accusations are instances of:

Using police funds for private trips to China and Singapore.

Misusing a witness protection house in Boksburg for personal gain.

Renting out Mdluli's townhouse in Gordon's Bay as a safe house to the state.

Manipulating schemes to finance Mdluli's private expenses, including a BMW.

Coercing suppliers for personal benefits, such as a discounted Honda Ballade.

Improperly appointing unqualified family members in crime intelligence roles.

The trial is set to commence on 7 October this year.
