Nagaland Set for Historic ULB Elections After 20 Years

Around 2.76 lakh voters will decide the fate of 523 candidates in Nagaland's urban local body elections after 20 years. Despite the boycott by Eastern Nagaland, tight security arrangements are in place. Voting will be conducted using ballot papers, with extensive preparations by the state election commission.

A crucial election period looms as 2.76 lakh voters are set to determine the political fate of 523 candidates in Nagaland's urban local body elections, marking the state's first such elections in 20 years.

State Election Commissioner T John Longkumer announced that 670 nominations were received. Notably, eastern Nagaland will not partake due to a boycott led by the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation pushing for Frontier Nagaland Territory.

The state, with 418 wards including 142 reserved for women, braces for a tense electoral climate. Voting will be held under stringent security, with ballot papers replacing EVMs, and extensive preparations to ensure a free and fair election.
