Child Labour Scandal Shuts Down Distillery in Madhya Pradesh

A distillery in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district, associated with Som Group, was sealed due to the illegal employment of 58 children. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, along with Bachpan Bachao Andolan, led a raid revealing severe child labor violations. State authorities have suspended the plant's manufacturing license.

A distillery linked to Som Group in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district has faced severe consequences following the discovery of child labor violations. State authorities have sealed the plant and temporarily suspended its manufacturing license. This comes after a raid revealed 58 children working under harsh conditions.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) conducted the raid in collaboration with Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA). The state excise department confirmed the plant's closure, emphasizing the gravity of the situation where children faced severe injuries from exposure to chemicals.

Som Distilleries & Breweries, known for producing beer and other beverages, stated the issue stemmed from contractors failing to verify the workers' ages. The company has pledged full cooperation with authorities, stressing that their operations comply with legal standards.
