A 46-year-old man from Maharashtra's Thane district was allegedly murdered by three individuals over his resistance to an interfaith marriage proposal concerning his daughter, police reported on Friday.
The victim, identified as Zakir Miya Shaikh, had opposed accused Avinash Khairat, who harbored one-sided feelings for Shaikh's daughter and persistently sought her hand in marriage, despite continuous rejections.
During Eid festivities, Khairat and two accomplices stormed Shaikh's residence in Kalyan taluka, where they fatally assaulted him with sharp weapons and sticks. The attackers also assaulted other family members, including women. Authorities have registered a murder case against the trio and are conducting a search to arrest them.
