The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has raised serious concerns, issuing notices to the Uttar Pradesh government and the state's police chief following alarming reports. A village panchayat allegedly advised the mother of a minor rape victim to accept Rs 5,000 from the accused and terminate her daughter's pregnancy.
According to media reports, the aggrieved family received threats from the miscreants if they did not comply with the panchayat's instructions. The NHRC emphasized that these actions, if substantiated, represent a grievous violation of human rights.
The NHRC has demanded a comprehensive report, including FIR status, actions against the accused, and the current health condition and compensation for the victim, within one week. The horrifying incident reportedly dates back to December 2023.
