Former Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna was remanded on Monday to a 14-day judicial custody, charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual abuse. The ex-MP, closely related to JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda, was taken into custody by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) after being intercepted at Bengaluru Airport upon his return from Germany.
The 33-year-old had left for Germany shortly after the recent parliamentary polls where he failed to secure the Hassan constituency seat. His return on May 31 prompted immediate action by the SIT, who had previously requested Interpol to issue a 'Blue Corner Notice' to track him. The action culminated in an arrest warrant issued by a Special Court for Elected Representatives on May 18.
Revanna faces three separate cases involving sexual assault, with initial allegations coming to light following the circulation of explicit videos allegedly involving him in Hassan prior to the Lok Sabha elections. Consequently, the Janata Dal (Secular) suspended him from the party, pending investigation.
