A devastating fire swept through a factory near Seoul, South Korea, killing 23 people, predominantly Chinese migrant workers. The catastrophe erupted Monday morning, engulfing the second-floor worksite after lithium battery sparks were detected on security cameras.

One hospital pronounced one victim dead while fire workers recovered 21 bodies on Monday and an additional body on Tuesday. Eighteen of the deceased were Chinese, two South Korean, and one Laotian. The fire has raised questions about safety standards in South Korean industrial sites.

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has pledged support for the bereaved families, while President Yoon Suk Yeol has called for safety inspections to prevent future incidents. Factory owner Aricell has apologized, promising cooperation with ongoing investigations and assistance to the families affected by this tragic event.
