Authorities in Maharashtra's Thane district have registered a legal case against a 22-year-old man accused of sodomising an 11-year-old boy at a madarsa in Bhiwandi. The assault took place in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to senior inspector Vinayak Gaikwad, the suspect fled to his hometown in Bihar after committing the crime. The young victim informed his mother, who subsequently lodged a formal complaint.

Law enforcement has registered a first information report (FIR) under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. An investigation into the disturbing case is currently underway.
