Thane Launches Crackdown on Illegal Bars and Pubs Amid Drug Concerns

In response to a drug-related incident in Pune, Maharashtra's Thane city civic body launched an extensive campaign on Thursday to dismantle illegal bars and pubs. This initiative follows direct orders from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who emphasized the urgency of such actions to curb drug consumption impacting the youth.

As of noon, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) reported the demolition of at least five unauthorized establishments in various city areas. TMC Commissioner Saurabh Rao is leading the charge, with the operation backed by heavy police presence and machinery, including bulldozers and JCBs.

Earlier in the week, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) also commenced actions against pubs violating operational hours and engaging in drug-related activities. Stemming from an incident at Liquid Leisure Lounge (L3), authorities arrested multiple individuals, including waiters and an event organizer, and suspended several police personnel.
