Senior IAS officer Manoj Kumar Singh took over as the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, according to an official statement.
The 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre replaces Durga Shankar Mishra, the statement added.
Singh previously held the roles of agriculture production commissioner, infrastructure and industrial development commissioner, and additional chief secretary of the Panchayati Raj department of Uttar Pradesh. He spoke to reporters about the opportunity to work for the betterment of the state's 24 crore people under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's guidance. Singh expressed a commitment to organizing the 'MahaKumbh 2025' in a superior and more organized manner.
He played a significant role in transforming the 2019 Kumbh Mela into a global event and now as chief secretary, his experience will be crucial for the upcoming 'MahaKumbh'. Throughout his career, Singh has taken on important posts including district magistrate of several districts and divisional commissioner of Moradabad. Notably, he was involved in controlling the pandemic in rural areas and contributed to the 'BC Sakhi' scheme. Singh is a key figure in Adityanath's team.
His predecessor, Mishra, a 1984-batch IAS officer, was appointed chief secretary just before his retirement and served on an extension.
