West Bengal's First Arrest Under BNS 2023: Man Apprehended for Crimes Against Women

West Bengal records its first arrest under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) 2023. A casting director from Narendrapur, South 24 Parganas district, was detained for allegedly molesting his minor daughter. The wife filed a complaint, and the man faces charges under BNS and POCSO Act. Investigations are underway.

In a landmark event for West Bengal, the first arrest under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) 2023 has been made. A man from Narendrapur in South 24 Parganas district was detained for allegedly molesting his minor daughter, according to a senior police officer.

The accused, a casting director in the Bengali television industry, was apprehended on Monday following a complaint lodged by his wife at the Narendrapur police station. She claimed that he had sexually molested their daughter when she was alone at home.

The man has been officially charged under BNS Section 76/351(3) and Section 10 of the POCSO Act. He has a history of harassing women, and the investigation is ongoing, the officer stated. Additionally, on the first day of BNS implementation on July 1, Kolkata Police recorded at least 31 FIRs across various police stations under their jurisdiction.
