NCP (SP) Protests Against Sambhaji Bhide's Remarks on Women's Attire

The Pune unit of NCP (SP) protested against right-wing leader Sambhaji Bhide over his remarks on women's attire during an annual pilgrimage procession in Maharashtra. Bhide's comments sparked condemnation, with NCP (SP) city president Prashant Jagtap demanding legal action and warning of court intervention if Bhide isn't arrested.

The Pune unit of NCP (SP) staged a protest on Wednesday, objecting to right-wing leader Sambhaji Bhide's remarks on women's attire. The protestors demanded immediate legal action against him.

During a 'Wari' event in Pune on June 30, Bhide controversially stated that women in 'dress material' should abstain from participating in the 'Vat Savitri' puja. Additionally, he allegedly made comments undermining India's independence.

Political and social backlash ensued, with several entities condemning his statements.

NCP (SP) city president Prashant Jagtap, present at the protest, stated, "He (Bhide) repeatedly makes statements that offend women." Jagtap further emphasized that a case should be filed against Bhide immediately. He also warned that if no legal action is taken, NCP (SP) will approach the Bombay High Court for intervention.

Notably, Bhide had faced controversy in 2022 for refusing to converse with a woman journalist who wasn't wearing a 'bindi'.
