Justice Aalia Neelum on Thursday took oath as the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) of Pakistan, marking a historic first for women in the judiciary.

Governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, officiated the oath-taking ceremony, which saw attendance from prominent political figures, including Punjab's first female Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Justice Neelum, originally third in the seniority list, was considered for the top judicial position by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. Following her elevation, images of Neelum with members of the Sharif family circulated widely on social media.
