Jaya Prada Acquitted in Election Code Violation Case

An MP-MLA court acquits former MP and actor Jaya Prada in a 2019 election code violation case. Jaya Prada, a BJP candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, was accused of making false statements against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. The prosecution cited comments made by Jaya Prada during an election rally.

In a significant judgement on Thursday, a special MP-MLA court acquitted former MP and renowned actor Jaya Prada in an election code violation case dating back to 2019. Prada, who stood as the BJP candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, was embroiled in controversy following accusations of making false statements against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan.

The presiding judge, Shobhit Bansal, announced the acquittal, clearing Prada of charges under IPC section 171 G, which pertains to false statements in connection with an election. The former MP was emotionally present in court as the verdict was read out.

Speaking to the press post-acquittal, Jaya Prada expressed her gratitude towards the judiciary, emphasizing her dedication to Rampur. 'I have been a two-time MP from Rampur and never made any false comments. Satyamev Jayate,' she stated. Senior prosecution officer Amarnath Tiwari revealed that the case stemmed from remarks Prada allegedly made about Azam Khan during an election rally.
