Radical Sikh preacher and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh's brother, Harpreet Singh, has been apprehended by Jalandhar police in connection with a drug case, a senior police official reported on Friday.
Harpreet Singh, along with his accomplice Lovepreet Singh, was arrested by the Jalandhar Rural police on Thursday evening. Officers recovered four grams of ICE (methamphetamine) during a car inspection, the official disclosed.
The police official revealed that Harpreet Singh, aged between 30-35, was involved in some dispatching work in the transport sector. Both Harpreet and Lovepreet hail from Amritsar.
Amritpal Singh, currently imprisoned in Assam's Dibrugarh district under the National Security Act (NSA), was recently flown to Delhi on a four-day custody parole to take the oath as a Lok Sabha member. Winning as an independent candidate, Amritpal Singh took the Khadoor Sahib seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, defeating Congress contender Kulbir Singh Zira.
Leading the 'Waris Punjab De' outfit and styling himself after slain Khalistani militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, Amritpal Singh was detained along with nine of his associates under the NSA. He was arrested in Moga's Rode village after a February 23 incident last year, where he and his supporters clashed with police at Ajnala police station to free an aide from custody.
