CBI Nabs CGST Officials in Solan for Accepting Bribe

The CBI has arrested a superintendent and an inspector of the CGST in Solan for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000. The officials allegedly asked for Rs 12,000 originally but settled for Rs 8,000. A trap was laid, and the accused were caught red-handed. Further investigation is ongoing.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday apprehended a superintendent and an inspector from the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department in Solan. They were implicated in a case involving the demand and acceptance of a bribe amounting to Rs 8,000.

The CBI registered a case under sections 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, against the accused. It was alleged that they had initially demanded Rs 12,000 from the complainant, through his friend, for processing and approving the CGST registration number for his firm.

A trap was set up by the CBI, and the inspector was caught red-handed accepting the bribe in a criminal conspiracy with the superintendent. Subsequent searches at their office and residences in Solan, Mohali, and Una led to the recovery of incriminating documents and articles. The investigation is ongoing.
