Uttarakhand's UCC Progress: A Step Toward Uniformity

Uttarakhand's panel on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is ensuring privacy protection for live-in couples while considering parental notification for those aged 18-21. The UCC, now a law, mandates the registration of marriages and live-in relationships. The committee, led by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, incorporated public suggestions and aims for implementation by October.

Uttarakhand's panel on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is working to ensure that the data provided by live-in couples remains protected, while also considering the necessity of informing parents about individuals aged 18 to 21, according to the committee's chief.

Passed by the Uttarakhand Assembly in February, the UCC mandates the registration of both live-in relationships and marriages. On Friday, the expert committee's report, led by Justice (retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai, was made public on the official website.

The five-member panel received 2.33 lakh suggestions from the public and submitted its report in February. Chairman Shatrughna Singh stated at a press conference that privacy for those over 21 would be ensured, and the committee is aiming to implement the UCC by October.
