Goa's Top Cop Jaspal Singh Transferred Amid Controversy

The Goa Director General of Police, Jaspal Singh, has been transferred to Delhi following an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Singh, involved in a controversy over an illegal demolition in Assagao, will be replaced by Alok Kumar. Five individuals have been arrested, while the main accused remains at large.

The Goa Director General of Police, Jaspal Singh, was transferred to Delhi on Friday according to an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs, an official stated.

This move involves the 1996 batch AGMUT cadre Indian Police Service officer, as directed by Union home ministry director BG Krishnan. Singh will be succeeded by IPS officer Alok Kumar.

Singh has been embroiled in controversy related to the illegal demolition of a house in Assagao village on June 22. An inquiry by state chief secretary Punnet Kumar Goel revealed that a junior officer accused Singh of preventing him from stopping the illegal action.

Five people have been arrested for their alleged roles in the demolition, while the main suspect, Puja Sharma, from Mumbai, remains at large.

Following the incident, Singh told the media that the allegations against him were unfounded.
