The opposition Congress on Friday criticized Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Left government for not mentioning the late party stalwart Oommen Chandy during the inauguration of the first cargo ship at Vizhinjam port, questioning their manners and respect for the opposition.

Though the CM omitted Chandy’s name, Kerala Speaker A. N. Shamseer later acknowledged Chandy's contributions in a Facebook post. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan also took a swipe at the state government, expressing his ignorance about the event when questioned by reporters.

UDF MLA M. Vincent, representing the Kovalam constituency, highlighted Chandy’s efforts in realizing the port project, acknowledging the successive governments' contributions. The Congress leadership, including KPCC chief K. Sudhakaran, criticized the CM for allegedly sidelining the opposition during the event.
