Uttarakhand and Kerala have emerged as the top performing states in NITI Aayog's SDG India Index 2023-24, which evaluates states and union territories on social, economic, and environmental parameters.
In contrast, Bihar was adjudged the worst performer in the index. India's overall Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) score improved significantly to 71 in 2023-24, compared to 66 in 2020-21, boosted by progress in poverty elimination, economic growth, climate action, and life on land.
NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam highlighted the role of targeted government interventions in these achievements. ''India is not only on track but ahead in achieving most of the SDG targets,'' he said, expressing optimism about achieving goals before 2030.
