Delhi’s Munak Canal Repair Approaching Completion

Delhi Water Minister Atishi announced the Munak Canal repair work may conclude by Friday night. A breach had disrupted water supply to Delhi, causing waterlogging in Bawana. Delhi Water Minister Atishi has announced that the repair work on the Munak Canal, which began following a breach late Wednesday, is expected to be completed by Friday night.

The breach, impacting a sub-branch of the canal that supplies water from Haryana to Delhi, led to knee-deep waterlogging in several parts of the Bawana area and disrupted the water supply in various regions of the city. The repair effort involves teams from both the Haryana Irrigation Department and the Delhi Jal Board.

Atishi explained that the canal's embankment, which had suffered a 15-metre damage, has since been rebuilt, and concrete-lining is currently underway. The anticipated outcome is the restoration of the Dwarka water treatment plant's operations by Saturday morning.

Addressing the concerns of those affected, she mentioned that the water has been cleared from all impacted areas, and a health camp was established to prevent waterborne diseases, providing medical check-ups for over 100 residents. Additionally, power supply restoration efforts have been successful, and food provisions have been provided to residents.

An official from the Delhi Jal Board confirmed that repair work is progressing swiftly, with regular coordination with Haryana officials to expedite the process. The breach had initially halted water flow, but the temporary repairs have stabilized the situation, and water has been pumped out from the affected areas.

Local residents reported satisfactory progress with officers actively monitoring the situation on-site. Atishi's digital briefing highlighted that the breach affected several water treatment plants, with operations expected to normalize by the following day.
