In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old truck driver named Kamalkant allegedly took his own life by setting himself on fire, police reported on Saturday. Kamalkant's employer, Pramod alias Pappu, and his associates reportedly held him hostage and brutally beat him in Dakshini Mohanlalganj after he requested an advance of Rs 60,000 to repay a loan, according to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ranvijay Singh.
A video of the incident emerged on social media, adding to the gravity of the situation. Upon returning home on Tuesday night, Kamalkant, in a state of distress, committed suicide while his family was away at a wedding. The bereaved family notified the police, leading to a case being registered against Pramod and his aides Bhura, Bholu, Arjun, and Anuj by Thursday.
Authorities have since arrested Anuj, with ongoing efforts to locate and detain the remaining accused. The tragic event has sparked conversations about workplace violence and the mental health implications of such incidents.
