Joy, a 47-year-old temporary worker, went missing on Saturday while cleaning the canal near the Thampanoor Railway Station alongside two of his colleagues. An extensive search operation resumed Sunday with fire and rescue personnel, police, and NDRF teams leading the efforts.

State Fire and Rescue Services head K Padmakumar indicated difficulties in search efforts due to various side channels in the tunnel. Labour Minister V Sivankutty emphasized that the priority is to locate Joy and called on a full team of medical experts to assist with the rescue operation. The health department has mobilized a special team to provide medical support to the rescuers.
