Government School Teacher Arrested for Sexual Harassment of Minor in Gujarat

A physical training teacher from a government school in Mahisagar district, Gujarat, has been arrested for sexually harassing and threatening a 16-year-old girl. The incident led to vandalism by angry villagers. The teacher faces charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.

A government school physical training teacher in Gujarat's Mahisagar district has been arrested on charges of sexually harassing and threatening a 16-year-old girl student, according to an official statement made on Sunday.

In response to the incident, a group of outraged individuals vandalized the high school located in Ranjitpura village, Virpur taluka, on Saturday evening, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Vasava informed reporters.

Vasava stated that the teacher had been persistently harassing the minor, urging her to engage in physical relations and communicate with him on social media. The girl eventually confided in her relatives, who then brought the issue to the attention of the school principal. The police were notified and promptly arrested the teacher on Saturday evening.

Charges have been filed against the teacher under sections 75 (criminal force on woman with intention of disrobing or compelling her to be naked) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as section 12 (sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as confirmed by Vasava.

Additionally, police have taken action against those responsible for the damage to the school property.
