Chief Minister M K Stalin has strongly condemned the Karnataka government's stance against releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Announcing a meeting of legislative party leaders on July 16, Stalin aims to decide the future course of action regarding this inter-state river dispute.

As of July 15, 2024, Karnataka's four main dams have a combined storage of 75.586 TMC ft, while Tamil Nadu's Mettur reservoir holds only 13.808 TMC ft. Despite forecasts of adequate rainfall from the IMD, Karnataka's refusal to comply with the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's directive is seen as a betrayal of Tamil Nadu's farmers, Stalin asserted.

In response, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the state government's readiness to release 8,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu, in line with the CWRC's directive. Stalin has also scheduled consultations with legal experts to finalize the state's next steps.
