China Challenges U.S. EV Subsidies at WTO

China has requested the WTO to set up an expert panel to address a dispute over U.S. subsidies for new energy vehicles under the Inflation Reduction Act. The dispute was initiated in March, but consultations have failed. China urges the U.S. to comply with WTO rules and support global climate cooperation.

China has formally requested the World Trade Organization (WTO) to establish an expert panel to resolve a dispute over new energy vehicle subsidies under the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act, the commerce ministry announced Monday.

Although China initiated the WTO dispute in late March, efforts to find a resolution through consultations with the U.S. have stalled, according to the ministry.

In a statement, the ministry urged the U.S. to adhere to WTO regulations and halt the misuse of industrial policies that undermine international efforts to combat climate change.
