Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to launch the first-ever national toll-free narcotics helpline, MANAS, during the Narco-Coordination Centre meeting on July 18. The helpline, with a dedicated phone number 1933, aims to enable the public to conveniently report drug-related crimes and issues.
The MANAS helpline, whose full form stands for 'Madak Padarth Nisedh Asuchna Kendra', will also feature an email and an exclusive website for reporting. The identity of the informants will remain confidential, and their tips will be verified by the Narcotics Control Bureau before initiating legal action.
Authorities believe this initiative will enhance public involvement in curbing drug trafficking and related offenses as part of the central government's 'zero tolerance policy' against drugs, leading towards a drug-free India by 2047.
