Deadly Mosque Attack Shakes Oman's Capital During Ashura Observance

In a rare and devastating security breach, nine individuals including three attackers lost their lives and more than two dozen were injured during an assault on a Shi'ite Mosque in Oman late Monday night, according to law enforcement officials.

Among the deceased were four Pakistanis, an Indian, and a police officer, Omani, Pakistani, and Indian officials confirmed. A video circulated on social media, verified by Reuters, showed people fleeing the mosque amidst audible gunfire.

Authorities have not yet identified the attackers or their motives, nor have any arrests been announced. The attack coincided with the Shi'ite observance of Ashura. Describing the incident as 'unprecedented,' Pakistan's Ambassador to Muscat, Imran Ali, lauded local law enforcement and healthcare workers for their swift response.
