An 18-month-old boy tragically lost his life, and another boy was injured in separate street dog attacks in Telangana, police reported on Wednesday.
Telangana's Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the boy's death and ordered officials to implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The fatal attack occurred in Jawahar Nagar, Hyderabad, when a pack of stray dogs mauled the boy after he stepped out of his house on Tuesday night. The child was initially rushed to a private hospital and later transferred to a state-run hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Based on the parents' complaint, a police case has been registered. The family, originally from Siddipet district, had moved to Jawahar Nagar two months ago. The boy's grieving mother explained that she had left to get medicines when the tragedy occurred within minutes.
Chief Minister Reddy asked officials to establish a toll-free number or call center for dog-related complaints and suggested forming a committee of experts, including veterinary doctors and animal welfare representatives, to investigate the attacks. He also ordered vaccination drives and ensured medical treatments for dog bite victims were available in all healthcare centers.
In a separate incident, a seven-year-old boy was injured by a stray dog in Jagtial district but was reported to be out of danger after receiving treatment.
